Home Services Is the Most Wide-Open Sector in DFW's AI Answers

Vimina's DFW study: 2,694 AI citations for HVAC, plumbing, and home services searches. The most fragmented answer set we measured, which means the least settled winners.

Every sector we measured has a leaderboard. Home services barely has one. Roto-Rooter leads with 85 mentions, then Berkeys, Ace Handyman, DFW Plumber, and Baker Brothers, but the citations behind them scatter across the longest tail in our study. Consistency for the sector is 0.100, the lowest of the four, and on ChatGPT alone it drops to 0.084. Nobody owns these answers yet.

What we measured

Home services, meaning HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and the trades around them, produced 332 test cells and 2,694 cited sources across eight DFW cities on ChatGPT and Google AI Mode. High job value, at 4 of 5 on our scale, and the least settled answer set we measured.

What fragmentation actually means

A consistency score of 0.100 means that when the same question is asked again, the names change. The engines have not converged. For an incumbent that sounds comfortable, and it should not. It means the answer slot is decided fresh, over and over, by whichever signals are strongest that week. For a challenger it is the best possible starting condition: there is no ServPro of DFW home services to displace.

Where the citations point

On Google AI Mode, the home services stack is unusually top-heavy on one source: Google Business Profile and Maps dominate, with Facebook and Yelp behind. On ChatGPT, own websites, as everywhere in our data. The specific trap in this sector is the multi-trade blur. Engines recommend a plumber or an HVAC tech, not a company that does everything. One page per trade, each with its own proof, matches how the questions are actually asked.

What we would do first

  • Make the Google Business Profile bulletproof: exact categories per trade, full service area, photos, hours. It is the dominant citation in this sector by a wide margin.
  • Split trades into dedicated pages: one for plumbing, one for HVAC, one for electrical, each with city coverage.
  • Answer the emergency intent in plain text: after-hours availability, response time, and pricing structure.
  • Move fast. Fragmentation this high does not last. The first companies to structure themselves for these answers become the convergence point.
